Discovering Mystic Kodaikanal - Unveiling the Serene Beauty of Kodaikanal

Join us on an enchanting journey through the serene landscapes of Kodaikanal in our Mystic Kodaikanal video series. 


Episode 1

In this video, we explore some of the hidden gems of this beautiful hill station, including the tranquil Chettiar Park, the picturesque Poombarai Village View Point, and the serene Mannavanur Lake.

Chettiar Park is our first stop, a peaceful retreat perfect for relaxation and family picnics, with well-manicured lawns, vibrant flowers, and a variety of plants and trees. Next, we visit the Poombarai Village View Point, offering breathtaking vistas of the colorful village nestled amidst lush green hills and layered farming landscapes.

Our adventure continues at Mannavanur Lake, a serene spot surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery. The calm waters and diverse bird species make it an ideal destination for nature lovers and photographers. To reach the lake, we trek a short distance from the entrance, adding a touch of adventure to our visit. Nearby, there is a goat farm, which we will explore in an upcoming post.

We begin our journey at Bryant Park, a botanical garden that boasts over 325 species of trees, shrubs, and cacti. Our Lady of La Saleth Shrine

Next, we visit the Our Lady of La Saleth Shrine, one of the oldest and most significant religious sites in Kodaikanal. Built in 1866 by French missionaries, this shrine is dedicated to Our Lady of La Salette. The architecture is a fascinating blend of traditional Tamil and French styles, featuring intricate carvings and stunning stained glass windows. It’s a place of peace and reflection that holds historical importance.

Kodaikanal Lake

Our journey continues to the breathtaking Kodaikanal Lake, a star-shaped man-made lake at the heart of the town. Created in 1863 by Sir Vere Henry Levinge, the lake covers an area of about 60 acres and is a hub of recreational activities. From boating to cycling around the 5-kilometer path encircling the lake, there's something for everyone. The calm waters and scenic surroundings make it a must-visit spot.

Silver Cascade Falls

As we descend, we encounter the mesmerizing Silver Cascade Falls, a natural waterfall cascading down the hills near Kodaikanal. Situated along the route from Madurai road to Kodaikanal, Silver Cascade Falls is renowned for its shimmering appearance as sunlight reflects off the cascading water, giving it a silvery sheen. Fed by the overflow from Kodai Lake, this waterfall offers a refreshing and picturesque sight, making it a popular stop for tourists exploring the area.

Kodaikanal Museum

Also known as the Shenbaganur Museum, this establishment was founded in 1895 and is managed by Sacred Heart College. It houses a rich collection of artifacts, relics, and exhibits that highlight the cultural, geological, and natural history of the region. The museum's origins trace back to Father Usselinx, a Belgian priest dedicated to preserving Kodaikanal's heritage.

Thalaiyar Falls Viewpoint

One of the most spectacular sights in Kodaikanal is the Thalaiyar Falls, also known as Rat Tail Falls. Plunging from a height of approximately 975 feet, this waterfall is one of the highest in India. The viewpoint offers a breathtaking vista of the falls cascading down the rocky cliffs, surrounded by dense forests and rolling hills.

Manjalar Dam Viewpoint

The Manjalar Dam Viewpoint offers a serene view of the tranquil waters and scenic surroundings of Manjalar Dam. The expansive reservoir, surrounded by verdant landscapes and rolling hills, creates a peaceful and idyllic atmosphere perfect for photography and relaxation.

Dolmen Caves

Our exploration wouldn't be complete without visiting the Dolmen Caves. These ancient rock formations provide a fascinating glimpse into the early human habitation of the region. The large, stacked rocks form shelter-like structures believed to have served as dwellings or burial chambers for ancient tribes. Archaeological studies suggest these caves were used for rituals, ceremonies, and as resting places during nomadic lifestyles.
