Legacy of Valor: Exploring the Kunjali Marakkar Memorial Museum

The Kunjali Marakkar Memorial Museum is situated in Iringal, near Vadakara in the Koyilandi Taluk of Kozhikode district, Kerala. It is a significant historical site associated with the naval chieftains known as Kunjali Marakkars, who served under the Zamorin dynasty in Kozhikode.

The memorial is housed in a single-story building constructed with laterite stones, originally belonging to the descendants of Kunjali Marakkar. It has been converted into a memorial by the State Archaeological Department. The museum, located behind the memorial, provides an introduction to the history and legacy of the Kunjali Marakkars.

Inside the museum, visitors can view various exhibits related to the Kunjali Marakkars. Notable artifacts include the sword used by the legendary warrior Kunjali Marakkar, as well as cannon balls and other war relics from the period of the Zamorins, showcasing the maritime prowess and historical significance of the era.
